Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer at Staatsburgh! Fill out our online form

Volunteer Interpreters
There are probably some of you who are so proud of Staatsburgh that you would like to tell the world about it. Well, here's your chance. Volunteer as an interpreter and assist site staff by conducting guided tours through the mansion during our April 1st to October 31st season. Volunteer interpreters are encouraged to schedule regular hours on a weekly or monthly basis, if possible. Not sure about doing guided tours? You can volunteer to stand stations during our open house programs, such as A Gilded Age Christmas, and other special events. For those of you who are unfamiliar with standing stations, here's what it entails: volunteers and staff are stationed in each room to tell visitors about the room's significance and to answer questions as the public goes through the mansion at its own pace.

Friends of Mills Mansion Museum Store Volunteers
Museum shop volunteers answer questions, wrap items, and assist the cashier during very busy times such as special programs and bus tours.

Hospitality Volunteers
Hospitality volunteers are needed whenever we have a bus tour. They help by attending to the front door and directing patrons to the museum store and bathrooms.

Friends of Mills Mansion Food Wagon Volunteers
Those of you who are "outdoors" types, here's an opportunity for you! You can volunteer to help sell snacks, sandwiches, and beverages at Staatsburgh's outdoor events. These events include our biweekly summer concerts on the lawn, Scarborough Faire Herb and Garden Festival, Celtic Day, and A Gathering of Old Cars. Volunteers are also needed as Food Wagon cashiers.

General Office Volunteers
Stuffing envelopes, entering data, and putting information packets together may not be glamorous work, but without it our events and programs will not happen. Our "behind the scenes" volunteers are a very valuable asset to Staatsburgh. And we try to take some of the tedium out of the work by providing refreshments!

Special Events Volunteers
Special events, such as our Spring Gala Silent Auction, Tennis Tournament, Shotgun Scramble Golf Tournament, and Children's Outreach Christmas Program, call for some very special volunteers. Doing Hospitality, being workshop leaders and assistants, being cashiers, baking Christmas goodies (we need lots of Christmas goodies!), and working with children are only some of the ways volunteers can help with our special events. Maybe you have a special skill or some experience that you think would be helpful; let us know about it. You may be exactly what we're looking for!

Specialty Areas
Please let us know if you have skills in research, cataloging, gardening, or other areas. We will contact you when the need for volunteers with specialty skills arises.

Finally, our Volunteer Committee needs committee members. If you are interested in planning and putting on social and educational programs for our volunteers, as well as dealing with our many volunteer issues and concerns, please let us know.
